There are sometimes when your data get exhausted and you need to do something online or reply to a chat. Such times are when borrowing data comes in handy, especially if you are cash-strapped. Data borrowing service, just like airtime borrowing service, is now a service offered by all networks in Nigeria.
On 9mobile, as with other networks, you have the opportunity of borrowing data if you are out of data or in urgent need of data. In this post, we are going to be looking at how to borrow data from 9mobile as a subscriber. To make it explanatory, the approach of a step-by-step guide is employed.

How to Borrow Data on 9mobile
As either a new 9mobile subscriber or an existing subscriber (who hasn’t borrowed data before), you need to follow the following guide to borrow data from 9mobile. Note, just as it applies to borrowing airtime, you must have recharged at least #500 in a month before you are allowed to borrow data, if your recharge for the month is not up to #500, your offer to borrow data will be declined. Without further ado, the step by step guide to borrow data is as follows:
Step 1:
On your 9mobile line, dial *665#. A prompt will come up with two options which are “1. Borrow Airtime” and “2. Borrow Data”.
Step 2:
Enter “2” which stands for “Borrow Data”
Step 3:
The next prompt will bring out some options numbered 1 to 5. Reply with “1” to “Choose Loan Amount”.
Step 4:
After you have replied with “Choose Loan Amount”, the next prompt will bring up the amount of data you are allowed to borrow.
Step 5:
Depending on how much you have been able to recharge in a month, you will get options numbered 1 to 4 as follows:
- Get 100MB Valid for 1 Day
- Get 250MB Valid for 7 Days
- Get 500MB Valid for 30 Days
- Get 1.5GB Valid for 30 Days
Step 6:
Now depending on your data need, you can enter “3” to first try borrowing 500MB which is valid for 30 days. If you are declined, you can then enter “2” to try and borrow 250MB which is valid for 7 days. If you are now declined again, you can now finally try borrowing the lowest data amount on the list by entering “1” which will allow you to borrow 100MB valid for just 1 day.
Step 7:
Depending on the amount of data you are allowed to borrow, a notification will be sent to your phone that your account has been credited with the amount of data you request to borrow.
To check your data account balance to confirm the borrowed data, dial *228#.
To conclude this, you will only be allowed to borrow data when you have been able to recharge up to #500 in a month. To now borrow data, you have to follow the step-by-step guide above.
